My sister is back with the ultimate natural yoga pants post! Let’s jump straight into it. – Elisha
Are you trying to eliminate microplastics from your life but are challenged when it comes to workout wear? Same, girl.
Somehow, it seems all the natural fabric yoga pants are only for true hippies (read ugly and ill-fitting) and not for people who actually need their pants to perform. When I search for cotton or hemp yoga pants the options on Google are extremely limited or give off MC Hammer parachute pants vibes. I am one of those people who wears yoga pants 90% of the time, which I know is gross, but I live in the Bay Area and don’t make the fashion rules.
Actually, the only fashion rule in SF is to dress obscenely casually at almost all times. Will yoga pants work for running errands, going to brunch, and also actually taking a workout class? Yes, so that makes wearing them 24/7 ok. My only saving grace is that I actually do go to yoga 5-6 times a week, so it seems justifiable to wear yoga pants at all times if at some point I will be leaving my house to attend a class.
For the record, on the rare occasion I go to the office, I do wear real pants. We haven’t lost all dignity in this town… yet. Anyhow, my point is, I need good-looking and functional natural yoga pants, and none of this I live in a hippie commune nonsense.

Finding Yoga Pants W/ ChatGPT
My friend told me she used ChatGPT to help her find new gardening pants, so I thought I’d ask Grok for help in my natural yoga pants quest. Below are the brands we narrowed it down to after many, many, many suggestions. (Many suggestions of things that were just not good enough (and sometimes not real) but A+ to Grok for giving me many more options than my previous Google, Pinterest, and Etsy searches, which were all unsatisfactory.)
I ended up ordering two pairs Grok suggested: Rawganique (an interesting store with a terrible UI) and PuraKai leggings, and another pair from Skin Worldwide. After all that I saw an ad on Pinterest for Namarie, and ordered those too right away (great ad and not enough reviews to deter me). Read on for my reviews below, and guess what – I found a new favorite pair!
First off, here was the prompt I gave Grok:
“I am looking for a new pair of natural yoga pants. I want them to primarily be made of natural fibers like cotton, merino wool, or hemp, but they also need to fit well and stay up so they can include some kind of stretchy material. I want to avoid polyester and they need to not be see-through. I used to love Skin Worldwide Calypso leggings but they are discontinued. I wasn’t impressed with Pact leggings, they always felt like they were slipping down, and Jungmaven’s Hemp leggings are a bit see-through and the waistband is way too high (it went up to my ribs). What brands would you recommend?”
Grok’s High-Level Comparison (provided after I narrowed down my top choices out of its recommendations. Grok did a great job providing brands that I wasn’t able to find in my past searches.)

Past Natural Yoga Pants Reviews
About me (hopefully this is helpful for you for sizing)
- Height: 5’3”
- Weight: 120ish lbs
- Build: Athletic
- Size: Small (In all of the leggings below, I ordered a small, even if the size chart seemed to imply that was not the right choice. It was absolutely the right choice for all of them but one.)
SkinWorldwide Calypso Legging 90% Cotton/10% Elastane
As I mentioned, these perfect pants are now long gone. Very rarely do you come across a pair on Poshmark, believe me, I try regularly to find them with little luck. I’ve had many, many pairs over the years and originally found them so easily (literally in one Google search). I didn’t know what a difficult process it was to find a good pair of cotton yoga pants. Ignorance is bliss.
What I think the truly brilliant thing about these leggings were, was the double lining. It was two layers of thin fabric that moved well with your body, wasn’t too tight or grippy, but wasn’t too loose either. And best of all, you couldn’t see your underwear through them. They also had a great lay-flat waistband.
- Pros:
- Double lined, so no see-through issues
- Waist sat at a great spot, right above the belly button, and the waistband didn’t dig in
- Generally stayed put
- Great ankle length (on me they hit right above the ankle bone)
- Cons:
- Only one – after about a year, the inner thighs start wearing out, and one layer of fabric would start to disintegrate
SkinWorldwide Base Straight Leg Pant 88% Cotton/12% Spandex $155
I’m trying another pair of Skin leggings.
They have two pairs of straight leg pants as of this moment (August 2025). I chose this pair because it appears from the picture that the waist is a little lower than the other pair, and too high of a waist has been an issue for me on a couple other pairs recently.
Straight leg workout pants typically aren’t my favorite, but they are on trend at the moment. (The other pair with the higher waist can be found here.)
- Pros:
- Not see through and fabric felt more yoga pant like (read: stretchy in that specific yoga pant way – IYKYK)
- Generally stayed put
- Cons:
- Long on me, I want to go get them tailored (I found them a bit annoying during my class flapping around on my ankle) – although I did think they were a nice length for running around in my Hoka’s.
- Warmer than I’m used to (which might be because they are longer??)
- The waist does slip down a touch during yoga, not the worst but a little annoying
Pact On the Go-to Legging $34
- Pros:
- I bought a deep green color and it wasn’t see-through (I have a theory that black natural fiber pants are for some reason more prone to be see-through but I don’t have a good reason for it – probably fabric composition)
- Waist sat at a decent high spot right above the belly button
- Cons:
- Length a little long for my preference (full length, past ankle bone)
- The biggest issue was that they would start to slip down even though they seemed perfectly stretchy and also well-fitted. It ended up being very distracting during a class as they would need to be pulled up at least three times. I gave them to my sister, she may have a different review…
- Waist seemed to dig in a bit, even though the sizing seemed right
As the (taller) sister who got the hand-me-down green pair, I found them to be the perfect ankle length. Not see through. I agree the waist slips. But overall I enjoyed working out in them. I was worried working out in natural yoga pants would leave sweat spots in not so great places – happy to report that is not an issue!
– Elisha
Jungmaven Orosi Pocket Leggings Mid-Rise $84
- Pros:
- Minimal (manageable?) slippage and hemp fabric felt higher quality than Pact’s cotton
- Cons:
- Length a little long for my preference (full length, past ankle bone)
- Waist was WAY too high (comes up above my bottom rib and I had to have them tailored because the waistband wouldn’t stay folded down, even though it appeared like it might cooperate)
- A little see-through (not the worst, but not great)
- When they were brand new, I heard the sound of little threads ripping a lot. My sister tells me this sometimes happens and is just the base stitching ripping, so (usually) NBD. It doesn’t seem to have caused any issues…
- Pockets sewn on a little sloppily, seams uneven
- Faded rather quickly after a few washings
Side note: Not everything is going to fit right off the rack. If you love a piece, but it needs a little tweak, consider tailoring it! …Although that does mean you may not be able to hand-it-down to your taller, little sister when you’re done with it..
Rawganique Janelle Organic Cotton Blackout Ankle Leggings $59
So the interesting thing about these leggings is that when I received them in the mail, I actually received these Maggie’s Organics leggings. (I had considered Maggie’s in the past but had seen the “base layer leggings” in person and ruled them out for being too thin and thought that the “Blackout” leggings couldn’t really be that much better.)
I don’t think receiving the Maggie’s was a shipping mistake; I think that Rawganique is a natural item congregator, and their site is just not very good/clear. It had a terrible UI that almost made me not purchase from them, as it was frustrating to navigate.
- Pros:
- Actually decently opaque (a little sheer in some lights and angles, but overall good)
- Length is a little longer than my preference but not overly long, hits right at the ankle bone
- Waist sits at my true waist and not too high
- Cons:
- The pants themselves don’t seem to slide down, but the top of the waist band does and sits so it gives you a little muffin top (even if your muffin top is just a skin top but it makes you look like you have a little muffin)
- Sometimes they feel like they’re riding up your hoo-hah in certain yoga poses although it doesn’t happen often
PuraKai EcoFlex 2.0 Organic Cotton High Waist Leggings $75
I read so many reviews and looked at the photos, and I was really disappointed by these leggings. They were returned so fast that I didn’t snap a pic.
- Pros:
- Nice stretch factor for natural leggings
- Free shipping for returns, as sadly they had to go back
- Cons:
- COMPLETELY see through (read: unwearable – you could see my underwear full on in downward facing dog)
- Waist a little high (exactly how it appears in the site photos. Not as high as Jungmaven but not comfortable if you’re 5’3”, and it didn’t feel like the waistband would stay folded.
Namarie
Not a Grok suggestion, I found them via a (great) targeted Pinterest ad! I tried both pairs of leggings they offered, and between the two, I think I slightly preferred the Classic leggings. I also tried two of their sports bras, more on that below as well. Also, their name comes from a Lord of the Rings reference and I’m always here to support the nerds.
Pros for all items: THE FABRIC. It is luxurious, so soft, and feels like real yoga fabric not thin little hippie clothing. They have a special formulated hemp blend and their elastane is somehow made from corn. It’s incredible. Buy it for the fabric alone, keep it because it’s actually workout wear.
Classic Leggings in Bolt (bright blue) $89
- Pros:
- Waistband hit at a nice height, just above the belly button
- Smooth waistband, not elastic digging in, everything just lays correctly
- Not see through, no more worrying during downward dog
- Cons:
- A little big! An XS would have been better in these; they slip down a little, but it’s because they’re so stretchy (I ignored the washing directions and dried on high heat to shrink them a little)
- I got the 25” inseam, and it’s an inch shorter than I would like
Signature Leggings in Black
- Pros:
- Waistband hit at a nice height, just above the belly button
- Smooth waistband, not elastic digging in, everything just lays correctly
- Not see through (although I think they may become thinner than the blue after many washes – there is just a weird thing that happens with black natural fabric that I don’t know how to describe but have seen over and over)
- Cons:
- A little big! An XS would have been better in these; they slip down a little, but it’s because they’re so stretchy
- I got the 25” inseam, and it’s about an inch shorter than I would like
- These have a deeper V in the back than the classic leggings, and I feel like it’s a touch too deep – the classic is more flattering and a touch more comfortable
Lainey Bra in Bolt (bright blue) $56
- Pros:
- Simple and flattering
- Cons:
- The cups, thank heavens they’re removable – they’re padded and push up and it’s just too much (I also don’t think they’re made of natural materials)
- Also a little big! An XS would have been way better, the band around my ribs lifts up in downward dog (although not enough that it’s a concern that you’re going to have a wardrobe malfunction)
Kennedy Bra (red) $56
- Pros:
- Adjustable straps
- A fine, standard workout bra
- Cons:
- Same as the Lainey
- The cups, thank heavens, are removable
- Also a little big! An XS would have been better, same issue with the band around my ribs lifts up in downward dog (although not enough that it’s a concern that you’re going to have a wardrobe malfunction)

- Use my code DAndFBlog for a special discount!
That’s all I have for you! Hopefully, if you’re also searching for workout wear that won’t poison you, this will help save you time from reading endless reviews on the interwebs. If you have a pair of cotton, wool, or hemp yoga pants that you just love, please let us know in the comments. We’re always searching for the best natural options, although Namarie for the moment is my new perfect pair! Also, we’re in the market for more awesome natural material sports bras, which in some ways seems like an even harder quest, as natural materials and high-impact clothing don’t usually mesh.
Rumor has it https://wayvewear.com/ is coming out with 100% merino wool set later this year, and I also heard that https://rykerclothingco.com/ might have something in the works too – although I haven’t heard anything recently. Both brands make awesome men’s stuff at this time.
