Quilted Beanies
This scrap fabric beanie is the perfect sewing project to wear this winter!
- It’s quilted
- It’s satin-lined to protect your hair
- And ahem – it’s cute!
For me, this wasn’t a particularly speedy project, but if you’re used to quilting, it may be faster. I haven’t quilted since I was about 10, but despite the lengthy process – I’m incredibly happy with the end result of this sewing project.
I will say that it’s not really difficult to sew, it’s just time-consuming cutting all the pieces and quilting them together.
Check out this video below for a full tutorial, or you can read it here.
Reversible Travel Vest
This reversible travel vest can so quickly go from function to fashion.
It’s got a zippered kangaroo pocket perfect for storing your phone and wallet. Plus, the reversible aspect means you can easily dress it up or down for any event.

Smaller Version of Previous Projects
Or, if that isn’t clear enough for you – kid’s clothes!
I recently made a pair of mini overalls for my niece, who is seven, out of leftover corduroy. Using my self-drafted shortalls method from this post, I was able to quickly make her a cute outfit for summer.
Making kid’s clothes and smaller versions of your previous projects is a great way to use up leftover fabric and sew something you already feel confident making because you’ve made it before.
Ultimate Puffy Sleeve Upcycled Top
This sewing project is made from sewing scraps and upcycles a men’s button-up shirt. When I made it, I only had half of the shirt left, so for me, it was sewing scraps.
This project is fun to make! It takes a bit of playing with to really figure out the best design with the leftover material you have, but if you don’t mind taking the time to figure it out first, you’re sure to create a gorgeous piece!
This blouse has:
- Tie front closure
- Big, puffy sleeves – with button closures!
- And patch pockets

Reversible Corset Belt
If you only have a little bit of fabric left and still want to make something special, this sewing project is perfect. It even uses up leftover bias tape – though you could make your own with a bias tape maker like this one.
The main body of this project is made up of small rectangles of fabric, so you can easily use up your little scrap pieces, or patchwork some together into a truly unique design!
- It’s fully reversible
- And self-drafted.
I walk you through the full process here.
P.S. If you like the purple dress in the picture, you can find the tutorial for that here as well.
Ruffle Top With Tie Straps
This tulle top is incredibly easy to sew and requires only a bunch of rectangles to put together. No sewing pattern needed!
You can easily make this piece out of something other than tulle and even lengthen it a little if that matches your style better.
- No zippers or buttons – tie straps!
- No pattern – self-drafted!
- All the ruffles

Underwear
Some DIY underwear is the perfect small sewing project to use up your scraps. It requires very little material or effort but is a basic daily necessity.
We have a sewing tutorial here for a self-drafted, seamless underwear option. Or if you’re really ready to dive into the world of lingerie, I really recommend you check out Madalynne Intimates, she has so many amazing patterns. Plus, you can get her free underwear pattern here.
Eyelet Blouse Version #1
You of course do not need to use eyelet fabric to make this or the following two projects. But that’s the “fancy” name I’ve given them, so…
I made these sewing projects in the order I’m sharing them with you. I note this because these projects are all made out of the same fabric stash and as my available material dwindled, you’ll notice my projects shrank in size too. That being said, if you get creative with how you cut and design your pieces, you may be surprised that you can still make beautiful clothing pieces.
For my larger pieces of fabric scraps, I created this blouse:
- With a shallow square neck design
- Puff sleeves/cuff – with button opening!
- Exposed ruffle design throughout

Eyelet Blouse Version #2
When I made this blouse for my niece, it needed to be cute, but not too girly as my niece isn’t super into all the ruffles and bows.
For this blouse, I designed:
- A front V opening
- Puff sleeves – but not too puffy – with pintuck design
- Slight gathering under bust

Eyelet Blouse Version #3
This blouse is the third of my eyelet blouses. I made this for my other niece – which she actually designed by the way. I asked her what kind of top she would want to wear and she requested the puffy, elastic sleeves and gathered bottom piece.
This blouse has:
- Ruffle sleeves
- Gathered waist
- Pintuck design at center front
- Tie in back to make it easier to put on
You can of course make this in an adult-sized top if you prefer, but when I made this top I was just about out of fabric. If you’re interested in making this blouse, check out the tutorial here.

Now I’m dying to know – what project are you going to make?! Did anything catch your eye?
I hope you found this list helpful. I try to make scrap fabric sewing projects of things I’ll actually use and give you lots of options.
